Suavesmith Texturizing Matte Wax Review

Suavesmith Texturizing Matte Wax Review

Welcome once again to our latest review of a brand from Singapore. We are still amazed the number of brands kept popping up here in this small country - up to date we have reviewed these brands Gerson & co, Goldfingers, KnockOut and many more hidden ones! So how does this brand differs among the rest? Founded by Justin & Stuart in 2018, the products were created out of frustration of hair lose after using common hair waxes from the shelf. Believing that they could produce something much better, Suavesmith was born. Designed to fit the high humidity and hot weather in Singapore, they have came out with two products - the Texturizing Matte Wax, which we will be reviewing in this post and the Classic Pomade. Let’s jump into it!

Type

Matte Wax

Design and Packaging

A very standard well black coated tin jar, it is light and weighs at 100g, which means you can carry them on your flight easily.

They do have a logo very similar to us, probably much hairier ;) Other than that, it’s pretty standard with the mentions of how to use, ingredients and about the brand. It is claimed by the brand to use this product on dry hair and easily washed off with water.

Scent

More to a fruity sweet cologne-like scent. Not overpowering and unnoticeable throughout the day

Texture

It has a smooth creamy texture, however does not dry up easily on the hair or on the hair and it has some stickiness. Reminds me of Concept Creation’s Matte product.

Application

As advised by the brand, I tested on a dry hair after blowing dry. The application was pretty smooth, again very similar to Concept Creation’s Matte, and able to get in shape with 2 finger scoops on a short hair like mine. There wasn’t any hardening after styling. The only difference is there was no dryness in this product which makes the process much smoother

Restyling

Restyling is required around 1 -2 times a day to maintain a good hold. Easily restyled with finger comb, and no tucking experienced.

Shine

No Shine - Matte

Volume

There’s some good volume you can do with this product. Especially with a blown dried hair, you are able to do some comb back style!

Strength

  • Medium Strong Hold.

  • Suitable for indoor with light outdoor activities. Definitely not so suitable for any high perspiration outdoor activities.

Endurance

It works and endures great if you spend of your time in air conditioned indoors. Some light outdoors activities in high humidity conditions doesn’t damage much. The volume did reduce towards the end of the day.

Washability

Though it was claimed with water, my experience a shampoo wash does the best job

Hair Types

  • ThicknessFine to  Thick Hair

  • Works great for both Straight, Wavy

Hairstyles

Pompadour, Quiff, Spiky Side Parting, Comb back, Side Swept-Brush Up

Ingredients

Aqua, Kaolin, Beeswax, Prunis Amycdalus Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum Benzyl Salicylate, Citral, Geraniol, Butylphenyl, MethylPropional, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Petrolatum

Verdict

For the decent performance and the price point, I feel this is a “worth-it” product to get your hands on. I am a big fan of matte product as compared to high shine products. So definitely this is just right for me. Only a slight concern for those who are pretty particular on the ingredients used as it contains slight petrolatum (which is used it most beauty product such as Vaselin). But other than that, I don’t see any reason why not to try this product!
