Hipster Pomade Hero Review

Hipster Pomade Hero Review

The Pomade wave is still going strong, in fact there’s endless number of new brands surfacing from every corner of the world. Today we have Hipster Pomade, a brand from Malaysia that was born 2015. With the comeback of pompodour trends and vintage barbers, the founders of Hipster Pomade realized the need for a local product to support and meet the demands in Malaysia. As a Malaysian, I am super proud of this brand, the hard work to grow something from zero to HERO! Hence, we chose the Hipester Pomade Hero from their wide range of products for our review today.

Design and Packaging

Housed in a tin like packaging, it is well coated probably to prevent any rust since it is a water based product. Hopefully, it doesn’t rust like the anologue paste tin jar.

The design reminds me designs you can find in motor racing posters in the 80s. It is very light and weighs at 100g. This means it is safe to bring on board together with yourcarry on luggage.

Scent

The scent is somewhat like a cologne, a little minty and slightly melon fruity. It is quite strong and noticeable throughout the day. You don’t really need to wear a cologne when using this product. Personally, the scent is quite plesant

Texture

This is pretty much like your standard water based pomade with gel like texture. The semi transparent pomade can be easily scooped out and broken down on your hand palm. Pretty much similar to Daimon Barber No. 5, but it is slightly “thicker”.

It is quite viscous and sticky especially when you try to spread throughout your hand. The stickiness does reminds me of the Barbers Pomade. However, after breaking it down, you can feel that it becomes much lighter and a little dry.

Application

For this water based product, it is best applied on towel dried hair. As for the first test, I applied on a dry hair, and the second on damped hair. I have to say it is most advisable to apply it on towel dry hair.

Application was pretty smooth even though it does feel quite sticky. It is advisable to use both comb and your fingers to achieve a good slick back or pompadour. After the application, you will feel some hardening and my hair did clump together. This is expected since is almost like a gel type pomade.

Restyling

For me, restyling required around 1 time a day. If you spend most of your time indoors and air conditioned, no restyling required

Shine

Medium High Shine, pretty slicked

Volume

I would say it’s moderate. Since blow dry is a bad idea, the best I could do was trying to comb a slick back style, using my hands to volumize it. However, it does not really stands out in terms of volume.

Strength

  • Medium Strong Hold.

  • Suitable for indoor with light outdoor activities. Definitely not suitable for any high perspiration activities.

Endurance

It works and endures great if you spend of your time in air conditioned indoors. Some slight outdoors walking in high humidity conditions doesn’t damage much. However, on my test, the hold actually drops quite a bit towards the end of the day

Washability

Washout completely with just water!

Hair Types

  • ThicknessFine to Thick Hair
  • Works great for both Straight, Wavy

Hairstyles

Pompadour, Quiff, Spiky Side Parting, Comb back, Side Swept-Brush Up

Ingredients

Water, Cateareth-25, AMP-Acrylates Copolymer, Glycerin, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate20, Menthol, Fregrance, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorophenesin, CI 20285 and CI 15985.

Verdict

Love the hold very much as I can rest assured not much styling especially for the hustlers who spend most of his days in the office. Definitely should be part of your business wear gears. Aside that the volume and endurance wasn’t perfect, but the scent is descent and the price point is a good bargain. So gentlemen, if you are finding a medium to strong hold pomade, this should be part of your consideration!
